Chittaway Bay is a small suburb located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 1,901 and lies 72km north of Sydney.

History

Situated right on Tuggerah Lake, Chittaway Bay was inhabited by the Aboriginal people known as the Darkinjung tribe. Colonel David Collins discovered it in 1796, who had arrived with the First Fleet.

A hunt for an escaped convict named Molly Morgan led to the discovery of this area.

The Chittaway Bay Tavern, known as “The Tav” by local residents, is a popular pub located on the main road. The suburb has a public school, a cricket oval, and a specialty Christmas lights store. If you’re in the mood for shopping, the Chittaway Centre has a great variety of smaller stores.
