A suburb of Sydney, NSW, Castle Hill is 30km north-west of the Sydney GPO and is the administrative centre of the local government area of the Hills Shire.

History

Castle Hill was originally home to the Bidjigal people, who are believed to be a clan of the Dharuk people. The Bidjigal people are commemorated by the Bidjigal Reserve, a 186-hectare reserve.

In 1791, Governor Phillip led the first European visitors to the area. In 1801, Governor King began Government Farm 3 there, referring to it as Castle Hill in 1802.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Castle Hill’s commercial area lies on a section of the Old Northern Road to the east. Its southern side is home to an older shopping strip and the Castle Mall shopping centre, while its northern side is dominated by Castle Towers shopping centre which houses two department stores along with two Event cinema multiplexes.
