Welcome to Brunswick Heads, NSW
Brunswick Heads is a coastal town on the north coast of New South Wales, in the very north-east corner of the state. It is in the Byron Shire local government area, and is only 10km away from Byron Bay and 148km from Brisbane. Brunswick Heads has a population of 1,636.
History
Brunswick Heads was home to the Bundjalung people before European settlers arrived. Captain Rous documented the area when he travelled through in 1828. The town was developed and became a busy port by the end of the century. After the construction of the railway, the town went through a decline, but tourism revived it in the early 1900s. Old-fashioned holiday homes can still be found nearby.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Brunswick Heads is still a hub for tourism, and is a calm and relaxing counterpoint to the popular Byron Bay. Charming timber bridges and old cottages give the town a quaint feel. But there are a number of modern shops, restaurants, and hotels. Community events and small festivals appear all year round.
