Blaxland is a town in the Blue Mountains and sits 70km west of Sydney. It has an altitude of 234 metres and borders Glenbrook, Mouth Riverview, and Warrimoo. It has a population of over 7,000.

History

Blaxland is named after Gregory Blaxland. In 1813, he helped lead the exploration that discovered a route over the Blue Mountains. Before 1879, the area was known as Wascoe.

The Pilgrim Inn, built before 1895, was a well-known landmark in the area at the time but eventually decayed. The remains are now heritage-listed and lie adjacent to a McDonald’s.

In the early 1900s, the Rev. Joshua Hargrave was a major presence in the area.

Local businesses to Blaxland include the Blue Wail Coffeehouse, Como Restaurant, Supa IGA Supermarket, Commonwealth Bank, and Brookland Village shopping centre. It also has a small industrial estate and is home to the only landfill waste facility in the Blue Mountains.
