Beverly Hills is a residential suburb, with a population of around 10,000 people. It is 17km south of the Sydney central business district.

History

Beverly Hills took its name from the more famous Beverly Hills in California, but the area was originally known as Dumbleton. This name came from a farm which occupied the land around 1830. Dumbleton was an unpopular name with residents who longed for a more attractive name to promote their town.

When the East Hills railway line arrived in 1931 the locals opted to name their home after its American counterpart. Real estate development soon followed.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

King Georges Road is home to the main commercial area in Beverly Hills. In addition to shops, a cinema, and leisure facilities, it has over 40 different restaurants, cafes and takeaways. Visitors to the area will never be stuck for somewhere to eat.
