History

Alexander Berry set up camp in the Shoalhaven area in 1822. He employed sawyers to cut native red cedar. Soon, a saw mill was built on Broughton Creek.

By 1873, Berry and his brother established a municipality. David Berry built a showground and gave land for churches. The town became a centre for the timber and dairy industry.
