History

The suburb’s name originates from the Victorian era. Beaconsfield gets its name from Benjamin Disraeli, styled “Lord Beaconsfield”. Disraeli is a prominent past British Prime Minister.

On 10 June, 1977, the suburb became its own locality.

Beaconsfield is a key suburb in the Green Square district. New retail, business and residential developments feature in the suburb. This is part of a wider urban renewal project in inner Sydney.
