Bayview is one of Sydney’s wealthiest suburbs. It has a population of 3,093. The suburb is one of the least populated areas in all of Northern Sydney.

History

Governor Arthur Philips explored the area in 1788. He named the nearby bay Pittwater in honour of British Prime Minister William Pitt. The suburb takes its name from the commanding views it offers of Pittwater.

Patrick Bryan built one of the first local houses in 1821. Some tank traps remain from World War II on Bayview’s Pittwater Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bayview is mainly a residential area. Its attractive shore front location and affluent residents mean that it is an exclusive suburb. Local residents enjoy Bayview Golf Course, as well as two private marinas.

The Bayview Yacht Racing Association is based locally. Many young sailors learn their craft at BYRA. The Association has close links with several local schools.
