Banksmeadow is a suburb of Sydney, 11km south of the CBD. In the local government area of the Bayside Council, it lies on the northern shore of Botany Bay. It has a very small population of around 12 people.

History

The suburb was named to honour the naturalist, Sir Joseph Banks. In 1770, he travelled to Australia with Captain James Cook. Whilst navigating around Australia on the Endeavour, they first landed ashore in Botany Bay on 29 April 1770.

The suburb is largely industrial. It has commercial and industrial developments that are associated with the nearby suburb, Port Botany.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Running along the shore of Botany Bay is Foreshore Beach. The area is also home to Banksmeadow Park and Botany Golf Course.

Established in 1881, Banksmeadow Public School, is found at the corner of Wiggins and Trevelyan Streets, Botany.
