Ashfield is a historic suburb in New South Wales with a population of over 22,000. It’s situated 9 kilometres south-west of Sydney’s central business district and is a multicultural area.

History

A lady called Elizabeth Underwood split up part of her Ashfield Park Estate to form the area of Ashfield in 1838. St John’s Church was then built in Alt Street in 1841, which is the oldest surviving building in the suburb.

In 1920, the Australian Six motor car factory opened in Ashfield. The site went on to be an AWA factory for radio valves. Nowadays, this area of land is a residential and commercial development.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Ashfield has a shopping precinct along Liverpool Road, as well as office blocks and Ashfield Mall. The shopping centre contains many supermarkets and discount stores.

There are many great schools and churches in the area. This suburb also boasts local gyms, pools, parks and a well-maintained train station.
