Allambie Heights is a suburb in Sydney’s north, and is located in the Northern Beaches Council. It is 17km north-east of Sydney’s CBD, and has a population of around 6,742, as of the 2011 census.

History

Allambie Heights’ name comes from the Aboriginal word that means “peaceful place”. The suburb was around in the early 1900s. However, development really began after World War II, in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Many of the streets in the area are named after battles and allied political leaders from the war.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Allambie Heights is perched on the edge of the east coast, with great access to the beautiful beaches of the region. The main business area has everything locals need, including a supermarket, deli, primary school, bakery, and more. The Warringah Aquatic Centre is nearby, as is the Manly Dam Reserve and Garigal National Park. Allambie Heights is also home to a range of Aboriginal rock carvings.
