Albion Park Rail is a residential suburb in Shellharbour, NSW. It’s located on the shores of Lake Illawarra. It’s 15 minutes away from Wollongong and has a population of 6,937.

History

The South Coast railway line was opened to the railway station and Bombo in 1887. At the time, Albion Park was the closest suburb, several kilometres away. As a result, people built houses around the railway station to be closer to it. Eventually, Albion Park Rail developed into its own town.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb has a community area in the middle of town. It has a community centre, playing fields and a skatepark. There is one primary school.

The Illawarra Regional Airport is located in the town. It houses many rare planes including the “Connie”. The Illawarra Light Railway Museum is located south of the airport. It’s famed for its displays of historic railway locomotives and rolling stock.
